Spreading the Word

Hard to believe Hoops For Heart Health has been giving away AEDs for more than eight years now after Ryan Gomes initial “Let The Beat Go On Tour” of NBA Cities during the 2005-2006 season when Ryan was with the Boston Celtics. It’s still a race to get AED’s in places as Sudden Cardiac Arrest continues to be a leading cause of death in our young athletes, and there continue to be stories of saves with defibrillators on a regular basis. Ryan Gomes and Rachel Moyer have done more to spread the word about these miracle-saving machines with their efforts with Hoops For Heart Health over the past seven years than anyone could have imagined. Fortunately HHH will be donated it’s first AED outside of the US in 2013. I arranged a donation with Craig Heartstrong Foundation in Douglas, Isle of Man. This wonderful organization is trying to put AED’s in all schools in the entire country. The foundation was started after Craig Lunt, a local football player died after going into sudden cardiac arrest. Ironically, we have donated one to an American church that brought one to Nicaragua a couple of years ago, so while we have reached out to other parts of the world before, this is the first time a donation will be made on foreign soil. Don’t forget to keep June 22, 2014 on your calendar, as our annual dinner is that evening, back at The Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Connecticut. Stay tuned.

OOPS HE DID IT AGAIN!!!!!

Ryan Addresses Students and Parents at Bucks Hill School. “EARN WHILE YOUR LEARN” Program
It has been an awesome three years since I have been involved with Ryan and Hoops For Heart Health. Ryan never ceases to amaze me! He is an extremely gifted speaker. No matter what event he is asked to speak at everyone walks away feeling better about themselves. Ryan has a special gift to reach out and connect to whoever listens. And trust me – everyone listens! He captures his audience and makes everyone feel comfortable. They are able to relate to his life, where he was and how he got there and where his is going. He makes you want to do better at whatever you are doing… whether you are a student, parent, athlete, professional – whoever you are – you feel hope and feel his drive to do better in life…and go for the things you want to accomplish. For him being 2nd rate is never an option. His life was not easy. He tells how through respecting his mother Teresa, who raised him single-handedly, as well as his teachers, coaches and just about everyone who touched his life – has made him who he is today. I can’t wait to hear him again at our next event!

Ryan Visits Bucks Hill Elementary

Just left my Elementary School-Bucks Hill and what an experience. Reading Dr. Seuss Books to the 4th and 5th Graders. It was Awesome!!’ Walking into the classrooms I’ve learned at brought back so many memories. Most importantly talking about Hoops for Heart Health and the importance of AED’s and CPR and knowing how to use them. Along with the New Program we have added called (EWYL) Earn While You Learn in which students along with there parents can receive rewards for Accelerated Grades in School as well as their improved behavior. This program is helping our youth to accept responsibility and be held accountable for the Goals they set and get rewarded for it, as well as their parents. This has me so excited I can’t wait to continue with this. Thanks for reading my Blog. Until next time.
